5 Daily Habits to Grow Your Business – FREAKISHLY Fast!

http://www.chrisducker.com/daily-habits-to-grow-your-business/

FREAKISHLY-FAST

“Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world!”

Those are the words of Archimedes, a famous Greek mathematician and inventor with an infamous obsession for innovation. And while his words may seem anecdotal, or appear to be written for inspirational intent, Archimedes was referring to a real principle; a principle which has the power to not only move the world, but can also empower a single entrepreneur with the ability to accomplish more than would seem humanly possible.

What Archimedes was referring to is the principle of leverage.

The Most Powerful Human Leveraging Tool

I believe habits are one of the most powerful (and free) tools an entrepreneur can enlist in while building a business, and as you may have already witnessed among friends, family and acquaintances, habits contain the seeds of both success and destruction.

This means…

  • Enlist the wrong habits and your business will fail.
  • Enlist the right habits, and your business will grow. Freakishly fast.

What I’d like to present you with today are five daily habits to grow your business that can give you enormous leverage within your entrepreneurial journey.

But before we dive in, allow me to give you a word of warning. The power of any habit is the consistency at which it is performed.  It’s not a one time thing, or a flurry of action. They are seemingly subtle actions which begin to build momentum and power over time. And faster than you think.

Here are five habits I suggest implementing – I doubt you’ll be upset at me for suggesting them to you!

Habit #1 – Create a Morning Routine

Benjamin Franklin said “Early to bed, early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.”

But just getting up at the crack of dawn in and of itself will not make you rich or lower your blood pressure. It’s what you DO with those mornings that count.

During an interview on Youpreneur FM with Hal Elrod, author of the best-selling book The Miracle Morning: The Not-So-Obvious Secret Guaranteed to Transform Your Life (Before 8AM)Hal detailed his personal transformation that took place while studying and implementing morning rituals.

In case you haven’t read the book, or don’t know about Hal, his personal story takes you on a journey of both tragedy and triumph as he overcame personal death (he literally died for 6 minutes after being struck by a drunk driver) and then business setbacks, resulting in the loss of his home.

So what turned things around for Hal?

Things drastically changed the moment he decided to implement the habit he and countless others now refer to as The Miracle Morning. A set of six practices that sets up your day for success by taking control of the first hour of your morning.

Hal breaks down these miracle morning practices into the acronym Life S.A.V.E.R.S.

  • Silence
  • Affirmations
  • Visualizations
  • Excercise
  • Reading
  • Scribing (Writing)

But despite being very easy to begin implementing this list, what’s even more alluring is how FAST miracle morning practitioners are seeing results. Not only is the miracle morning helping entrepreneurs grow their business, but many people are also reporting that it’s completely changing their lives.

As Hal reminds us, a great life is built with great days, and great days begin by taking control of your mornings.

Be sure to listen to that episode with Hal on the podcast, and if you’re a Youpreneur Community member, you can check out his chit-chat on building a business around your book, which is excellent.

Habit #2 – Schedule What Matters Most

If it doesn’t get scheduled, it doesn’t get done.  That’s an original “Ducker-ism”, which has been a personal secret to moving my business forward over the 10+ years that I’ve been an entrepreneur.

What works for me is using 30-minute chunks of time (sometimes longer), during which I schedule everything that will move my business forward – daily.

But before I give you my short list of items, I’d like to highlight the fact that it’s critical to schedule what matters most FIRST. Your time is extremely valuable and you’ve only got so much to work with each day so make sure it’s being invested in projects and opportunities that will make the biggest impact.

Here are a few of the tasks I schedule (along with tips for maximizing that time) on a regular basis:

  • Clear and Concise Delegation: Having a team is one of the best ways to leverage your time. But if you’re unclear with the project and its objectives you’ll end up frustrating your team and dragging it out longer than it should be. Your team cannot read your mind. Put the time in to deliver a clear task with measurable ways for your team to know they’ve accomplished your objective.
  • Responding to emails: One of the best tips I can give is to be selective about which emails you respond to. Not all e-mails should require a reply. Pay attention to the type of emails you’re consistently getting. It may be a sign there’s a process missing in your business.
  • Reaching out to people I’ve just met at conferences: I’m a huge believer in networking. But handshakes and business cards are only the first step. It’s what you do with those introductions that matter. Why not make it a goal to reach out and see what value you can offer to your newly acquired contact. This also means you must be selective about who you reach out to – since you’re planning to make a time investment.
  • Brainstorming Ideas for podcasts: Creating a podcast and securing great guests doesn’t happen by accident. In fact, the easiest part of podcasting is recording the the thing! If this is a medium you plan on leveraging you’ll need to be deliberate about planning your show, booking your guests and doing your research before pressing record.
  • Building Processes: Time spent on process building is one of the best uses of your time when building a business. But it’s not easy. There will always be something else nagging at your conscious that needs to be be done right-now! Just remember that the only way to create control – is to stay in control of your time. So set aside time for process building, it’s really the best way to deal with tomorrow’s emergencies.

Your list will be different depending on the type of business you’re in and the maturity of your business. The most important take away is that you identify the important moving parts and schedule them.

That’s the key to developing your own daily habits to grow your business.

Habit #3 – Focus on What You Can Control

The craziest things will happen while building a business, and since luck is a coin with two sides you’ll discover that both good and bad situations will come knocking. The most important thing, however is to remember that your job is to only focus on what you can control.

This means…

  • Identify the tangible steps you can take each day towards achieving your business goals. It’s not enough just to list them.
  • Don’t lose sleep over losing a large client. Instead, focus on ways you can consistently cultivate new opportunities.
  • Meet setbacks with a “what do we need to do right now” mentality instead of complaining about what happened.
  • Make it a habit of over-delivering for your clients. The day may come when a mistake is made and it will be helpful to have a reputation of over-delivery which helps ease any frustration and will cause your clients to give you the benefit of the doubt.

Now, does this mean you’ll be able to prevent anything bad from happening in the future?  No, unfortunately not.  The purpose of this habit is to give you mental relief when the storms of business do strike, and strike they will.  But that’s ok, you’ll soon discover that your biggest breakthroughs and innovations will come as a result of these unforeseen setbacks.  So stay focused on what you can control.

Habit #4 – Learn to Say ‘No’. Often!

This is tough one. As entrepreneurs our minds are built to find ways around obstacles, and to inspire people that anything’s possible. But in order to build a business you must be focused on the actions that will move your business forward.

This is why learning to say no is important.  Steve Jobs put it this way, “People think focus means saying yes to the thing you’ve got to focus on. But that’s not what it means at all. It means saying no to the hundred other good ideas that there are. You have to pick carefully. I’m actually as proud of the things we haven’t done as the things I have done. Innovation is saying no to 1,000 things.”

So remember, when you say YES to something – you’re also saying NO to something else – and vice versa. Make sure you’re always saying YES to the right thing.

Habit #5 – End Each Day with ‘Tomorrow’ on Paper

Along with creating a set of morning rituals (as outlined in Habit #1) I recommend ending each day with a brief planning session of what tomorrow will look like.

This planning session should take no more than 10-minutes and should include the following items:

Morning ritual time: Even if you’ve learned how to get yourself up on auto-pilot I still recommend writing down your protected morning time. This habit will reinforce the importance of this time, while also increasing the likelihood of you sticking to it.

Calendar: Are there any upcoming meetings for which you should start preparing for?

Your #1 priority item: If nothing else get’s done tomorrow except for one thing. What should it be? Once again, this doesn’t mean you should only do one thing tomorrow, but this is the one thing that must get done at all costs. And with that said, why not make that the first thing you work on.

Fires: What “fires” (aka. emergencies) need to be put out? Every business will have its fair share of setbacks to deal with, but if you can use them as an opportunity to improve your procedures & systems they can actually become a blessing. But that only happens if you take the time to identify your “fires,” source how they happened, and then see what could be put in place to prevent them from happening in the future.

Today’s Highlights: Every day should end with gratitude. Even if your entire day felt like a mess there’s always something you can find.  This practice will give you positive closure each day, which then sets up your next day for success. What you may also find is that you’ll start finding your days filled with more things to be thankful for. Coincidence? I think not.

Learn to Love the Journey, My Friends!

Building a successful business is a journey. The business you have today may end up looking a lot different than what you had envisioned, and that’s okay. It’s fine. This is why it’s important to truly fall in love with the process of putting together you’re own personal daily habits to grow your business.

Be excited about what the future holds, but make sure to love the place you’re at today. Pivots will come and go – get used to ’em!

Algorithmic Business – What it is and how to become one

http://www.blogtrepreneur.com/algorithmic-business-become-one/

programming-942487_640What is an algorithmic business? How to make use of algorithms? How to become an algorithmic business?

With the rich interconnections between businesses, consumers, and the general public in a digital environment, a huge amount of significant data may be collected at any given time.  Information regarding preferences, routines, needs, and wants may be assessed for developing strategies to market, sell, and efficiently deliver products and services.  The heart of algorithmic business is turning raw data into strategic business goals. And this fuels the new but very influential source of business growth in this age.

What is an algorithm?

Put simply, an algorithm is a method, formula, or procedure to accomplish a task or to solve a problem.  The most familiar examples of algorithmic businesses are the online services such as Google, Facebook, and online shopping sites.  Google’s success stemmed from its unique service, a very comprehensive search algorithm that delivers instant results.  Google’s search engine can predict search terms through the first letters typed by a user; and it even has an option for a lucky result where a website that is on top of the search results is automatically loaded. Facebook shows selected feeds from selected connections using an algorithm detecting friends whose posts have been previously liked or commented on and a bevy of other factors.  Amazon displays products that might be of interest to a user based on previous searches and purchases.

How can your business benefit from it?

While online businesses get the most obvious benefit from algorithmic computations, all kinds of businesses can benefit from it. You can use supply and demand metrics to plan inventory, come up with sales tactics, develop pricing schemes, and choose the best available routes, suppliers, and all other considerations for the business.  Knowledge of customer preferences gives an enterprise every opportunity to make services very personal and attract a loyal following.

Today, collecting data is already a given.  The issue is whether a business is able to make intelligent use of the information or not. Algorithms are no longer an exclusive enclave for mathematicians. Computers are able to do human computing tasks that take hours to complete in less than a second. Moreover, cost is no longer a problem. The price of algorithmic software is already made affordable by competition. In effect, there is no reason why businesses should not go with this trend. Following are some important features.

Efficiency in doing business

Algorithmic software helps optimize processes. Based on metrics, businesses can make optimal work, ordering, and staffing schedules based on the availability of service vehicles, numbers of customers needing services at a given time, traffic patterns, and supplier prices, amongst others. You can also use it to simplify business procedures in order to minimize waiting times, especially for customers. It enables businesses to attain a level of operational accuracy for added cost savings and ease in carrying out normal functions.

Enhanced customer interaction

Personalized services are now easy to implement with readily available information about customers.  Direct marketing is made more effective because data regarding customer preferences and their ability to buy are available and accessible. Not only that, but entities such as banks and lending companies can assess the risk profiles of customers in order to apply effective and appropriate interest rates for each one.  Predicting buying habits can also make work easier for both the customer, with heightened ease in purchasing products or services; and for the business, with the enhanced ability to predict inventory or supply needs.  Businesses can also customize their processes in response to changes in buying behaviours.

The ever changing role of CIOs

In all these, the CIO’s role transitions from just controlling data to the management of algorithms.  With the rise of algorithmic software, CIOs will need to build a new IT platform, one that is always offering new solutions. CIOs should be seen as partners to the business, not just cost centres that must be managed. IT in business is itself a profit-driver with innovative solutions to all sorts of business issues.

Driver for the Internet of Things

There will be a myriad of connections in IoT in the next few years. With all sorts of appliances, and even cars, being smart now, means it is more likely that data may be mined to provide insightful information in all areas cutting through all lifestyles.  The only way to make this mammoth amount of information intelligible and useable is with the help of algorithms.  Apps are getting smarter, catering to every whim.

Predicting all sorts of behavioural patterns will give birth to many new business ideas.  Every business should take advantage of them.

Tips For Combining SEO & Content Marketing

http://nopassiveincome.com/tips-for-combining-seo-content-marketing/

A common concern, or rather a mistake, nowadays is that many marketers and business owners struggle to decide:

Which tactic will help them grow their online presence further, SEO or content marketing?

There are tons of surveys and research over the web that show the importance of both:

All of this information leads to one thing: businesses must use both SEO and content marketing strategies to improve their website traffic.

This has a lot to do with consumer habits and preferences shifting greatly during the last years:

  • Consumers are smarter and more careful now when they buy products/services online
  • You need high quality content to rank up on search engines
  • Keywords are no longer enough to achieve higher ranks on SERPs

This is why the two tactics, while being separate things, need to merge together and be leveraged equally, to produce satisfying results.

writing

Don’t Do SEO for SEO’s Sake

When you think about merging SEO and content marketing effectively, it’s important not to focus on older SEO tactics like keyword and link stuffing. Your main focus should be on creating relevant, valuable, high quality content for your audience, which will be backed up by SEO.

This is why you need to use keywords in your text naturally, without creating an impression that you just try to get people to your website. If you are ever faced with the choice of which one to compromise keywords or quality, quality has to win, every time.

Create Wikipedia Content

Depending on the industry, marketers can find tons of topics that will be a good fit for Wikipedia articles. Wiki articles are great because the website is focused on delivering the most accurate and relevant information to readers and thus, ranks higher (usually the first or second result) on SERPs.

If you struggle to find topics on what to write on, here is something to think about: Wikipedia deletes around 1000 articles each day (mostly because it’s old and irrelevant now). This means for that there is a ton of wiki content out there that is being left with “dead links” all over.

You can just find those dead links, see which ones are relevant to your industry, pick a topic and set things right.

wikipedia-dead-link

Focus on Evergreen Content

Evergreen refers to a piece of content that doesn’t lose value overtime. This means that readers will find it useful today, and it will still be relevant in a few years from now. This way, your content won’t be losing search rankings on Google and your investments into producing high quality content will continue to generate more and more visitors overtime.

In an effort to find evergreen topics, here are two tactics that work well:

  • Use google search for common keywords in your industry and look at the result pages. You are looking for content that has been published 3-5 years ago, but since it’s still relevant, it will be on the first page of search results. This is how you will identify evergreen content and get an idea on the topics you want to choose.
  • Update your content if its statistics heavy. Whenever you create content that focuses on statistics like this one “Google’s 200 Ranking Factors”, update your content from time to time. These kind of topics evolve overtime and you can maintain higher search rankings if you constantly follow the latest trends and update your stuff.

Combining SEO and content marketing is one of the best ways to grow your website traffic and attract high quality (not just random!) visitors and leads.

Start with the tactics mentioned above and don’t forget that online marketing is an ever evolving thing: keep a constant lookout for tactics that will help advance your business even further.

Why Accountability is the Ninja-Like Business Advantage You Need

http://www.chrisducker.com/business-advantage-you-need/

ninja business advantage

What comes to mind when you think of the word Entrepreneurship?

Before you answer, really think about it.

  • Do you think of the FREEDOM it has to offer?
  • Do you consider the RISK that’s involved?
  • Do you admire the LEADERSHIP that’s needed?
  • Or maybe you imagine the thrill of INNOVATION.

Whatever it is, there’s usually one word that’s not discussed when the topic of entrepreneurship comes up, and that is accountability.

Don’t get me wrong… I get it. Accountability is NOT sexy. I doubt many people are searching online right now for more blog posts, or videos about how to become more accountable.

But without accountability it will be nearly impossible to achieve your goals.

What is Accountability?

Let’s begin by defining what accountability is. And what accountability is not.

Accountability is…

Having your end-goals known by people you value. There’s nothing wrong posting your goals on social media, or YouTube for the world to see, but it’s also important for the people within your inner circle to know your goals too.

A verbal commitment to your goals – this can be between you and someone else.

Owning your mistakes – yes, you will make mistakes on your road to achievement. Lots of ’em!

Having someone / or group of people that will ask you about your goals and support you in achieving them.

Accountability is the business advantage you need, simply put.

Accountability is not…

Writing your goals down and then keeping them to yourself. It’s impossible to be accountable if you’re the only one that knows about them. The biggest reason is that you’ll easily be able to let yourself off the hook at any time, without anyone knowing about it.

Making excuses for why you’re not able to hit your goals – let’s be honest. It’s going to be impossible to achieve your goals without making mistakes. This doesn’t mean you’ll never slip or fail, but entrepreneurs being held accountable don’t focus on the excuses. They focus on what they can learn, and what their next step is.
Measuring your success against others: Thanks to social media

Why Accountability Trumps Willpower

It’s easy to feel motivated at the beginning of a project.

  • No mistakes have been made… yet.
  • No challenges have been encountered… yet.
  • You’re still feeling the “buzz” of starting something new.

But what happens when the challenges start showing up?

How do you ‘do the work’ when the motivation has faded?

Typically this is where entrepreneurs turn to their willpower (and caffeine!) to help them power through. But that only goes so far.

What makes accountability so powerful is that your goals now have a voice. Something that people pay attention to. Something that you ‘put out there’.

This comes in the form of conversations with people in your trusted inner-circle who are allowed (and asked) to bring up your goals and ask how your progressing. This means openly sharing BOTH progress and failure with your audience and social circle.

All of which contributes to the desire of not wanting to let anyone down, and fulfilling your word.

None of which happens if you keep your goals to yourself.

This happened to me recently. I attempted to launch a high-end mastermind version of my successful Youpreneur Community. High price, private coaching, monthly commitment, etc. Even though I knew from speaking with many of my members that they wanted something like this, I was off target on what they could afford. So, the launch failed.

But, it genuinely didn’t bother me all that much. Why? Because I held held myself accountable by promising people it was coming. And, more importantly… when it failed, I talked about it – which opened up a load of brilliant conversations and feedback that has now helped me develop something new, which will be launched soon, and I know the likelihood of it ‘hitting’ this time far outweighs the changes of it ‘missing’ the target.

How To Bring Accountability into Your Life

Becoming accountable is no different than growing muscles.

It doesn’t happen by accident. You must be intentional about becoming accountable. This begins by surrounding yourself with likeminded individuals that get you, the mission that you’re on as a business builder, and will stand by you in your pursuit of business success. The perfect example is a small mastermind group, or the aforementioned Youpreneur Community, which continues to grow month after month.

It takes resistance training. Every time you encounter a fork in the road on whether you should go in the direction of your goals, or take the easy way out – it’s an opportunity to develop your accountability.

Proper nutrition intake. Just like your body needs nutrition to grow, your ability to become more accountable is dependent on the thoughts and environment you feed yourself. Being aware of this and making the proper adjustments can be life-changing. Read. Listen to podcasts and always be learning.

So with that said, you can start today. You do this by identifying the people in your life that can hold you accountable – in turn creating the business advantage you need.

Here’s a few ideas to begin with:

  • Your spouse.
  • A mastermind group.
  • A personal best friend.
  • A co-worker within your department.
  • A sibling.
  • A coach, or mentor.

Bruce Lee once said “As you think, so shall you become”.

Think. Put yourself out on that ledge a little.

The most important thing to remember when choosing an accountability group, or person is that you’re 100% honest with them about what you want to accomplish, share the areas of weakness in your life that will be your biggest obstacles and then remain 100% honest about your progress.

With these steps in place your business will change, your life will change, and you will become nothing less than the best version of yourself in the process.

I promise.

What did you think about the message in this post? Tweet me, or drop me a note on Facebook quickly – I’d love to know. If you have any entrepreneurial friends that you feel should read this, too, please share it with them. I’d appreciate it.

Social Media Reviews and Other Tips for Improving Local SEO

http://www.massplanner.com/social-media-reviews-tips-improving-local-seo/

social-media-reviews-and-other-tips-for-improving-local-seo
When you run a small business, you’re not competing for the top Google search results of all time. You want search results that attract local customers. That means a different SEO strategy from one meant to attract people from all over the world. Making yourself the first or second result in your area isn’t easy, either. With the right strategy, however, you can improve your local results and get more customers.

Make a Google My Business Page

Create a Google My Business page for your local business. Just setting up the page gives you lots of benefits; people use Google to discover businesses all the time. Your Google My Business page allows you to control how your business appears on the search engine giant. You input and edit the information, including what kind of products or services you offer. This information displays in both Search and Maps results. That way, you can make it clear where you’re located and what your hours are.

This is one of the easiest ways to optimize local SEO. Let’s say you’re a florist. When someone searches for florists in your area on their smartphone or computer, Google displays a map with local results. You’re more likely to show up on that map if you have a Google My Business page.

Attract Reviewers

Attract Reviewers
The thought of reading what people have to say about your business can be frightening, and nobody likes getting bad feedback. However, reviews are essential to your local SEO strategy, so you need to increase the number you have. Get reviews wherever you can. A business with lots of reviews gets a higher Google ranking than a business with very few. Target a few places where you’d like reviews, like on your Google My Business profile and through Yelp.

Reviews also give potential customers a reason to choose your business over others. Many search results display the average stars a business receives on various sites like Yelp and TripAdvisor. In fact, 88 percent of people pay attention to reviews, both positive and negative, when deciding whether to buy something, or from whom to buy it. So how do you attract reviews? Offer incentives for leaving a positive review, like a coupon or a special opportunity. On your site, ask people to leave a review about their experience.

Rank in the Google Maps 3-Pack

What is the Google Maps 3-Pack? When you google something business-specific, like “restaurants near me,” three business results appear before any other search results. It doesn’t matter if you’re on a smartphone or a tablet. You’ll see a map with red dots corresponding to the locations of the three places listed below it. Getting into that Google Maps 3-Pack is a serious achievement that will boost your local SEO.

Along with setting up your Google My Business page and getting reviews — both of which help you crack the 3-pack — you need to get links back to your pages. It sounds difficult to get other people to link to your website, but you can improve the number of links you have from quality sites in several ways. First, look for local directories and directories that focus on businesses like yours. Get your business listed in as many of these directories as you can. Just make sure the directories are authority sites.

Second, keep an updated blog and promote your content. Evergreen content is best because you can promote it a few times a year and it’ll still be relevant. The more people who link to your content from their sites, the better off you are. Figuring out what kind of content will succeed is difficult, so you’ll need to experiment before you find a formula that works for your business.

Create Location-Based Pages

Your website needs location-based pages, and that location information needs to be in a specific format. First, your site should have your complete address and phone number. Second, that information needs to be in text format. It’s fine if you have a heading featuring an image incorporating the information as long as you list it somewhere else on your landing page in normal text. Search engines can’t search your address if it’s in picture form.

Display your contact information more than once. Most pages have their address and phone number listed at the bottom of every page. If you have multiple locations, you can list them all on your contact page. Just make sure you only list one phone number per address. Too many phone numbers confuse search engines.

You can also edit the tags on your page for local SEO. Your META, your URL, and your H1 tags can all include your location information. You can even tag your images with your location.

Use Social Media Marketing

use social media marketing
Social media is a fantastic way to boost your local SEO. First, you need a steady stream of followers who engage with your content. Post great content, including interactive content, to attract people to your social media pages. When your content is good, a percentage of those followers will link to your site directly from their blogs, Twitter accounts, and other social media spots. That helps you gain more links.

Your quality content also encourages people to share it. According to Mass Planner, getting a lot of people to share your content via social media will also give you a boost in search engine results. You don’t have to cross your fingers and hope people will share. Much the same way you attract reviews, you can incentivize sharing with your followers. Offer prizes and exclusive content to people who share your stuff. Ask questions or make quizzes and encourage people to “repost” so their friends can answer, too. You’ve got lots of options, and they only grow with the size of your follower base.

Wrapping it Up

You’ll have to work on each aspect of local SEO to have a cumulative effect. One alone might not do much, but together you can boost your local rankings and see a serious uptick in business. Good luck, and don’t give up!

Top Marketing Strategies for a New Business

http://www.blogtrepreneur.com/top-marketing-strategies-new-business/

Most new businesses and startups don’t have the time or capital to gamble on marketing strategies which might not work. And while there are plenty of articles on the internet promoting hundreds of different excellent marketing strategies, many of them aren’t appropriate for cash-strapped new businesses, or startups which don’t have months to wait for the results of an ultra-targeted campaign. Others are appropriate only for specific niches or industries, and shouldn’t be applied without careful consideration.

Whatever the nature of your business, we’ve gotten together some of the best and most effective marketing strategies to utilize to grow your client base methodically and effectively.

Social Media Marketing

Whether you’re a B2B business or primarily work in B2C offerings, you can leverage the power of social media to market to potential customers for a massive improvement on ROI over traditional advertising. But that doesn’t mean that it’s easy! For example, choosing the right social media network to market on based on your ideal client base can be difficult, and if you do a poor job of producing or targeting your marketing efforts, you’re basically throwing money into the wind. That said, most social media websites provide detailed analytics and targeting mechanisms to help, and offer free support staff to assist you in setting up campaigns for the best results. Instead of jumping into social media marketing uninformed, utilize these and other free resources for the best results.

Content Marketing

Content marketing can be a cost-effective marketing strategy all on its own, but can also dramatically increase the effectiveness of other marketing strategies, especially SEO and social media-based strategies. The most obvious benefit of content marketing is that a website with more information will be more likely to draw more visitors… and keep them for longer, increasing your lead-generation rate. But it can also improve broader brand reputation and awareness, and usually improves a website’s conversion rate. If your business is mostly web-based, this strategy shouldn’t be ignored, and is arguably the best marketing strategy through your blog.

Whatever your product is, you can often generate the fastest (and most far-reaching) buzz by giving it away for free. Or even nearly-free. Providing customers an opportunity to try your business by getting a free product in return for promoting it on social media or elsewhere can immediately maximize brand awareness across all target markets. It’s usually much easier to capture a return customer than a new one, meaning that this short-term hit to profitability can net you a lot of regular customers. If you don’t have the wherewithal to give many customers your product or services for free, consider identifying key influencers, such as popular bloggers or social media users, and offering them a free product in return for promotion to their circles.

Media Mentions

Another fantastic strategy is to gain media mentions: especially if you’re dealing with local consumers! But even if you’re not, niche-specific media mentions and endorsements from trusted sources can do a great deal to ensure not just that there’s more general brand awareness for your company, but trust. Many potential consumers will shy away from a new business because it’s untested, and they don’t know if the customer service experience or product quality are reliable. Having a position of authority vouch for your business can help solve both those problems.

The Bottom Line

Marketing a new business is complex, and if you don’t prove your value convincingly and concisely, you might find few first-adopters of your services lining up and your investment funds dwindling. It’s not uncommon for fantastic ideas to fail their first market test because of poor media attention, advertising, and marketing. These failures to raise customer awareness can be easily prevented by beginning with a fantastic marketing strategy with well-set goals and timelines.

The Best 10 How-to Tips on Using Twitter to Promote Your Business

http://www.massplanner.com/the-best-10-how-to-tips-on-using-twitter-to-promote-your-business/

the-best-10-how-to-tips-on-using-twitter-to-promote-your-business
Every business, online or offline needs certain marketing strategies in order to reach its target audience. The marketing campaign is extremely relevant to the overall success of the business, as it could be considered the engine that makes the whole business process possible.

Twitter is one of the giant social media networks that are dominating the marketplace right now. The statistics are also impressive. According to a 2016 Twitter report, around 310 million users are logging in each month. That’s a lot of people, and many of them are waiting for you to create the proper approach strategies.

With Twitter you can definitely improve your brand awareness, which is basically your business reputation and popularity. As you probably realize, brand awareness and social media attention is extremely beneficial for your business. It allows you to extend your limits and bring your business up to a new level.

If you haven’t heard of the big domain registrar service called Namecheap. What’s impressive about this specific company is the fact that they’ve managed to gather over 100.000 followers by using an engaging Twitter marketing strategy.

What they do is organize giveaway contests, trivia contests, and they mix the business with fun. It’s a pleasure to read their tweets and definitely cool to win free prizes for just participating in a discussion. They use some of the tips which you’ll learn later during this article.

Important Twitter Promotion Benefits

Twitter
Twitter is great because it comes with a lot of benefits. There is a huge potential for your business, as the users and Twitter promotion tools are going to offer you an enjoyable and productive marketing experience. The moment you start promoting your business through Twitter, the moment you’ll begin to notice instant effects.

Let’s take a look at few of the most important benefits which Twitter can provide any business with:

By tweeting instant messages you can properly communicate with your target audience. You can reach your followers by tweeting, and they can do the same with you. They can participate in discussions and stay updated with your latest business news.

promote your own brand
As previously mentioned, brand awareness is one of the factors that will improve your business stability and revenues. You are building an image of your company by providing value to your followers. If they have something to learn from you, they will stick around and be satisfied with your services.

Twitter is not just about communication, retweeting, and networking. It’s also a place to promote your website. From there, you can sell affiliate products, your own products, or sell and promote services. You can also choose to directly promote them using your Twitter profile page.

Sometimes all your business needs is to be told that something’s wrong. That is the only way to replace and optimize aspects of your business. With Twitter, you can easily ask your followers to help you with some serious feedback.

Have them say what they enjoy, what they don’t, and what they would like you to change. This is an essential process of any professional business.

Even if you are not using your profile for business purposes, you can still take advantage of Twitter’s search and follow tweets feature. Discover new trends and go for what people talk about at the moment. If you are a business owner, you should find this feature extremely useful for generating new business and promotion ideas.

Enough with the details; let’s get straight into what should be done in order to assure a successful performance of your marketing process. Next, we’ll talk about the top ten tips which will help you create better results while using Twitter as a promotion strategy for your business.

#1. Build a Professional Twitter Profile

effectively advertising on twitter
You need to take special care of your company’s presentation. Your Twitter profile is the most important place in which you can present your company’s information and services.

Start by adding your company’s physical location (if you have one). Then include your business website address. Lastly, you have a 160 words description which should be your company’s bio. Do everything you can to give as much information as you can.

Your Twitter’s profile helps at building the story and the branding of your company. If it’s going to be a long-term journey, you’ll sure benefit a lot from having a clear and professional Twitter profile.

#2. Interact With Influencers

There are hundreds of influencers that hold great marketing “powers”. These individuals are social media users who already have a strong reputation. They usually focus on one niche and gain a lot of followers and interested potential customers.

You can start approaching them and asking them to promote your business through their Twitter profile. Start building a list of potential influencers, and start engaging with them on a daily basis. This will create an amazing traffic performance, as their posts may be seen by thousands of people.

In most of the cases, you will have to pay for this service. The price depends on the popularity of the influencer. If you try to get Cristiano Ronaldo to promote your football shoes company, you may have to pay a few millions in order for him to do it.

#3. Tweet Regularly

You need to treat your Twitter marketing campaign as seriously as you treat your business. By creating a social media presence, you are committing to be extremely active and provide a lot of value to your audience.

People are following you because they want to learn new things, entertain themselves, or solve issues. If you can provide enough relevant and useful information, you can expect to gain their trust. When the trust is built, you can easily progress to more serious actions such as selling or promoting your (and others) products and services.

Tweeting regularly will create a professional image of your brand, and your potential prospects will perceive your business as something serious and worth following.

#4. Don’t Be Afraid to Retweet

twitter retweet
Your social media profile is supposed to provide value. That we have already established. In most of the cases, your resources will be limited. You might be able to create or outsource only a certain amount of content. In that case, you have to approach new methods for delivering the promised value.

The retweeting option is just like the sharing option on Facebook. You are taking someone else’s content and sharing it on your Twitter profile. You can share everything you want; from tweets that have already been published to content from all around the web. Articles, videos, images, and so on.

Don’t be afraid to retweet, and instead be afraid of not giving enough helpful content. Focus your attention on keeping a constant quality of your content.

#5. Offer Exclusive Discounts for Your Twitter Followers

When people see the word “exclusive”, they are automatically tempted to take advantage of the information or services that are being offered. It makes them feel special and they’re most of the times do more efforts in order to get what they want.

Offering discounts to people who are loyal to your business and have already followed your Twitter profile is an awesome strategy for increasing the impact of your promotion. Create a special page on your website, post on Facebook or other social media channels, or send your audience an e-mail with information regarding your exclusive promotion.

You can either offer discounts, promise free spots to certain events, or offer free e-books or special articles. Anything that’s relevant to your audience could be used as an incentive. They will have to do some actions in order to be eligible for your offerings.

#6. Get Visual

In order to stimulate your followers and future followers, start posting tweets that also include visual aspects. If you post an update, look for a relevant picture and post it together with your message.

Videos are also another strong method of generating a lot of interest. They say that one picture can speak a thousand words. Now imagine what one video can do. People nowadays frequently prefer to sit and watch something instead of reading it.

The content you provide on your Twitter profile page can take many forms. Make sure that you give your postings a small variety, so you can keep your followers engaged and interested.

#7. Pay For Promoted Tweets

Like with any social media network, Tweeter is offering advertising options and features. Promoted tweets are one of those paid advertising options which allow you to feature your tweets and boost their visibility. The moment your tweets reach a wider audience, the moment your business stats will jump to different levels.

If you are totally into your business, you’ll most definitely need to invest a part of your budget for direct promotions such as these. With Twitter, you can take advantage of many awesome options and possibilities of promotion. You will be able to reach persons according to their interests, age, gender, and so on.

#8. Use Twitter Analytics

If you didn’t know by now, Twitter has an analytics feature. This will allow you to track and analyze your marketing efforts. It will also give you insights concerning what aspects of your promotion you must change, and what aspects you must keep.

By analyzing your advertising campaigns and profile signals, you’ll save a lot of time and money. Besides that, you can also optimize your promotion strategy according to what’s working at the moment.

Any business needs analytics in order to stay on track. If you can take advantage of this feature, why wouldn’t you? After all, you are only learning more things about your target audience’s behavior and your marketing campaign’s performance.

#9. Be Super Responsive With The Use of Mobile

mobile marketing explained
This is more like a personal tip, but it can truly make the difference. You see, Twitter is a very fast paced sharing network. A lot of connections happen instantly, and you must be present in order to seize the opportunity. As mobiles are an essential part of today’s society, you should use them in order to stay connected to your social media profile.

By downloading the Twitter application on any of your smart devices, you will be constantly noticed of the updates and events that are happening on your profile feed. Sometimes these notifications can really give you a fast chance of establishing something or making a fast sale.

Be present, be responsive, and you will see that everything will work smoother. Do not neglect the power of instant responses. Many individuals will see you as a professional due to your fast responses.

#10. Test, Optimize, and Scale

Each and every marketing campaign, be it Twitter, Facebook, or Snapchat, cannot hold if there’s not a lot of testing and optimizing involved. In order to maintain a positive ROI (return on investment), you must constantly test and find new advertising and promotion angles.

There are quite a lot of tools that will help you keep track of everything. These tools will also suggest modifications for your individual marketing campaigns. Of course, it is up to you or to the person who’s dealing with the Twitter promotion to find creative ways of improving the overall campaign.

After you take care of the testing part, you will be able to notice the aspects that have to change. Begin optimizing your campaign and test again. If you get better results, then it means that you should scale your efforts using the same strategy. As long as a marketing strategy gives you satisfying results, you should keep pushing it as much as you can.

Wrapping it Up

Twitter is a powerful tool that can be easily used for promoting any type of business. You just have to understand and apply certain tricks and promotion strategies. If you can master that, you can definitely improve your business level by connecting with thousands of potential clients and customers.

Starting a Podcast: 10 Reasons Why Your Business Needs a Voice!

http://www.chrisducker.com/starting-a-podcast/

starting-a-podcast-10-reasons

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I stand before you today with one goal in mind…

I will demonstrate beyond a shadow of a doubt, why your audience not only WANTS, but NEEDS you to consider starting a podcast.

But before we address the reasons why your business needs a voice, let’s begin by confronting the three reasons why people typically avoid it and why, if you’ve been doing likewise, they should no longer stand in your way.

AVOIDANCE REASON #1:  I Don’t Have an Audience

I totally get it.  Why start a podcast, if there’s no audience to create it for, right?

This is one of the most common objections for starting a podcast, but the irony is that a podcast is a great way to begin BUILDING an audience.

The rising popularity of podcasts combined with the fact that they’re easily consumed (unlike reading a long article, or ebook) means you’ll have a far greater chance of building a loyal audience that likes, trusts and feels like they know you.

AVOIDANCE REASON #2:  I Don’t Have Room in My House / Business for a Studio

If you have a desk – you have all the room you need for a podcast.

This is where I podcast:

starting-a-podcast

Since podcasting is still relatively new, our mind tends to link the concept of podcasting – to radio broadcasting. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. Some of today’s most popular podcasts are being created in a small corner of a room.

And you don’t need that fancy microphone to get started, either. Believe me. I just used my Apple headphones when I started in 2010.

Speaking of equipment…

AVOIDANCE REASON #3:  I Can’t Afford the Equipment

You’ll be surprised with how little you need to begin.

All you need is…

  • Computer.
  • Microphone.
  • Podcasting Software (Mac comes with Garageband already built into its applications).
  • A good topic to discuss.

Ok, let’s get to the good stuff.

10 Reasons Why Your Business Needs a Voice!

#1 People really, really like podcasts nowadays

According to recent study conducted by Edison Research podcasting continues to show strong growth over the past 7 years. In fact, many believe that 2017 will be the break-out year for business podcasting, particularly.

#2 Not everyone has time to read 4550 words

The average blog posts is approximately 700-words, which can can be read in about 5-minutes. However, the average podcast is 35-minutes which translates into 4,550 words, the equivalent of 6.5 blog posts.

Not only does this allow you to deliver more content to your audience, but it’s also delivered in a way that’s easy to consume.

And as a side note, if you’re not taking advantage of listening to podcasts during your drive to and from your place of work, or while taking a walk, or on a plane journey, you’re missing out on a huge opportunity to leverage your time.

#3 It’s easier to produce a consistent podcast, than blog posts

“If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot. There’s no way around these two things that I’m aware of, no shortcut.” Stephen King

Whoa! If the great Stephen King is saying there’s no shortcut to writing, then what does that mean for the rest of us?

The good news however is that podcasting allows you to create an amazing piece of content without having to go through countless revisions of your work. In fact, the more conversational and casual it is, the better it will connect with your audience.

That’s one of the biggest compliments I get about my podcast, Youpreneur FM – that it’s like a couple of friends talking in a pub, or over dinner.

But if you’d still like to clean up your audio after recording you can easily find an inexpensive editor on Upwork and have them take out any pauses or “ums” and “ers”.

#4 Podcasts are sticky

When someone decides to listen to a podcast they’ll usually listen to the entire show, and if they like it, there’s a good chance they may listen to another.

That’s a LOT of content!

What’s great about this is that they’ll either feel closer and resonate with your message, or they’ll decide this isn’t the right place for them, and that’s a good thing. The whole point of getting your voice out there is to attract and build the right audience for YOU and your business.

#5 Your personal brand will benefit

I’m a huge believer in building a personal brand, but having an impressive logo and catchy slogan will only qualify you as being average in today’s digital marketplace. What’s most important is that your business has a personality. And I can think of no better way to give your business a personality than by giving it your VOICE!

#6 Become an instant, welcomed guest

When someone listens to your podcast you’ve suddenly become the “invited guest” within their home or office. No different than sitting across from this listener and having a face to face meeting with their undivided attention. Yeah! That’s pretty powerful stuff.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m a huge fan of email marketing, video marketing, and consistent content marketing (such as blog posts and infographics), but there’s nothing like the level of intimacy podcasting creates.

#7 Align yourself with successful people

If you choose to launch and grow a interview format podcast, all those guests you’ll be chasing down to have come on your show will make a difference to your overall brand, too.

The more successful people you have on your show from your industry, or niche, the closer aligned you’ll be seen to them and their success. Perception is key and is often very, very contagious.

#8 The on-going servicing of your existing audience

No matter how big or small your current audience I can guarantee they’re listening to podcasts.

So if they’re going out of they way to open your emails, read your blog posts and register for your webinars – why not service them with a podcast!

Not only will your podcast help form a deeper relationship, but it can also serve as a platform to spotlight members of your audience who are putting your teaching into practice. Some the best content you can create are case studies, which demonstrate that what you teach actually works. My buddy Pat Flynn does this better than almost everyone else I know.

#9 Develop your speaking skills

I absolutely love speaking, but like anything else, speaking is a skill that needs to be developed.

What’s great about podcasting is that it will allows you to continually work on your craft. It also helps you to build confidence in your speaking ability without needing the approving laughter, or applause from a live audience.

It can be a bit strange speaking to an invisible audience, but that same skill will help you deliver engaging and entertaining webinars, which is a skill every digital entrepreneur should be improving.

#10 Opportunity to repurpose content

Each of your podcast episodes can be repurposed into additional pieces of content.

Here’s a few ideas:

  • Have your podcast transcribed and distilled into a single blog post with a call to action of listening to the entire show.
  • Have the best points of your podcast turned into a 7-point, or 10-point infographic.
  • Breakup a single podcast recording into 2 or 3 episodes. I highly recommend this if you have the opportunity to attract a popular guest on your show. Just make sure to communicate in advance to them that you plan on breaking it up into 2 or 3 shows that way the two of you can properly plan what to cover and where to break things up.
  • Turn some of your most downloaded podcast episodes into Slide decks to share via social, or even into live presentations.
  • The opportunities for repurposing are literally endless!

Above all else, remember this…

Creating something of value takes practice and patience. Remember that when you’re planning on starting a podcast.

Don’t make the mistake of expecting your first few episodes to be perfect, or to attract a lot of downloads.

The goal of your first few episodes should simply be to complete them (aka “ship your product”) and learn as much as you can from the process. With that mindset and approach, your following episodes will continue to improve in both delivery and content.

Trust me. Your audience will thank you for it. Mine does.

And with that, ladies and gentlemen, I rest my case!

What did you think about the message in this post? Tweet me, or drop me a note on Facebook quickly – I’d love to know. If you have any entrepreneurial friends that you feel should read this, too, please share it with them. I’d appreciate it.

Every Small Business Owner Fails… but Your Data Shouldn’t Be Where Things Fall Apart

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Carbonite for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

Owning a small business is a gamble. There’s no getting around that fact. All of the preparation, experience, skills, and great intentions in the world can’t protect a business owner from the occasional misstep, miscalculation, or flatout screw-up.

And, when a small business owner screws up, there’s usually a very real cost involved.

For an unfortunate number of business owners every year, the combination of their own mistakes and external circumstances end up putting them out of business. For a larger and hardier bunch, however, the inevitable rough patches and downright failures that pop up along their business journey end up becoming valuable lessons that make the business stronger going forward.

That’s the group I’m talking to today.

The Biz Warriors story

My brother, Adam, and I have been creating, buying, optimizing, growing, and selling businesses since we were little kids. In fact, our first venture – bankrolled by my grandfather – opened for business when we were just 8 years old. We made and sold Dipper Do Stunt Airplanes at a local folk festival. As I recall it, that brief venture went pretty well and we had a lot of fun.

But, over the next 20+ years, we haven’t always enjoyed the Midas Touch. We’ve had our hands in literally dozens of different ventures either as founders, business buyers, investors, or advisors, and – like every small business owner we’ve ever talked to – we’ve had our share of mishaps occur along the way.

Data security keeps us up at night

For example, since a large part of our past and present business portfolio includes online properties like blogs, communities, forums, and social networks, we’ve learned some really tough lessons along the way when it comes to data protection, data backup, and data loss. In a very real sense, 98% or more of some highly profitable business ventures we’ve been involved with over the years would simply cease to exist if our data was lost, corrupted, or otherwise damaged.

And even our offline businesses rely to a large extent on data – from financials to inventory to customer and subscriber databases – that could create a huge problem if it all disappeared overnight.

Just thinking about that possibility keeps me up at night. It reminds me of Thomas Cucco, owner of Table 87 in New York. Check out one of these small business stories:

<Video #1>

Fortunately, Adam and I have never hit quite that serious of an issue, but we’ve definitely had our scares here and there. Of course, a smart business owner shouldn’t have to learn the hard way that data security is important:

  • Firewalls and antivirus programs are essential, but even with the latest and greatest apps installed, no system is 100% safe and secure all the time.

  • Business insurance is a wise and necessary investment to replace vital equipment and supplies in case of a natural disaster or accident, but insurance can’t replace lost data.

  • Employee theft is always a sad possibility, and data itself as well as the equipment it’s stored in are prime targets for employees looking for a quick buck.

  • Disgruntled employees only need a few moments with the company’s network to do irreparable damage by deleting or corrupting valuable data before leaving for good.

For all these reasons and more, we decided that a fully guaranteed, secure and protected data backup and restore service was the smart way to protect the data that represents so much of our hard work and investment.

We ended up choosing Carbonite cloud solutions for data protection, backup and restore. Carbonite’s services have been built from the ground up to ensure our data is safe from any kind of threat, and to guarantee that – should the unexpected happen and we lose all of our vital data – we’ll be able to restore it in a matter of moments from clean and secure automated backups that Carbonite maintains.

And so, even though data remains absolutely essential to our ongoing and future business success, we sleep pretty well at night.

What’s the point?

The real bottom line is simple: every small business owner is going to fail at some point. We all make the occasional dumb decisions, oversight, or even catastrophic misjudgment.

But there are plenty of tools and skills we can use and develop to make sure our failures are both manageable and – in their own unique ways – beneficial to our businesses and our lives. Carbonite cloud solutions is a great example of a tool that eliminates the danger of a failure involving our data bringing down our entire business.

So, if you’re a small business owner, how are you preparing for and managing your inevitable failures along the way? How do you protect your dataThat’s a question we all need to ask ourselves routinely as we keep pursuing our entrepreneurial dreams.
